Inventory Planner F/T

Position Title: Inventory Planner

Department: Inventory Planning

Fundamental Functions:

  • Issues orders to vendors to maintain inventory of materials and finished stock product according to target levels
  • Maintains inventory levels of raw components according to previously established levels
  • Establishes and maintains minimum stocking requirement levels according to previously established guidelines
  • Reviews backorders to ensure that they are filled on a timely basis
  • Coordinates with vendors to determine status of orders and track on-time delivery
  • Manages exceptions: special orders of custom product, delayed/incomplete delivery of orders
  • Supports the addition of new product by setting up SKUs and initial inventory targets, and the phaseout of SKUs by managing decreasing inventory levels and coordinating with Sales to define phaseout milestones
  • Prepares inventory control and vendor performance reports
  • Advises department supervisor of unusual material or production cycles needed
  • Participates in internal and external projects to improve materials and/or inventory utilization, lead time, etc

Essential Functions & Physical Requirements:

  • Use computer and standard business applications: spreadsheets, word processing, etc
  • Analyze data, communicate with internal departments and make decisions on ordering and replenishing materials and product
  • Sits six to seven hours per day
  • Talk or listen six to seven hours per day
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 60 pounds. Lift requirement of job: 60 pounds
  • Bend, squat and crouch, 1-3 hours per day
  • Use close vision on a constant basis
  • Work under moderate noise conditions (business office with computers and printers)
  • Use repetitive hand and wrist movements, reach, push, pull and use hands to finger, handle or feel, throughout the work day


  • Computer, telephone, fax, 10-key calculator, typewriter, copy machine, file cabinet

Job Pre-Requisites:

  • Four-year certificate from college or technical school; OR 3 5 years related experience/training; OR equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Proficient in understanding the basics of forecasting, replenishment and inventory management. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Plus four (+4) or equivalent for last 12 months evaluation average (if applicable)
  • Preferred APICS Certification or equivalent
